The main objective of the National Competence Center (NCC) is Cyprus is to further develop and extend the activities, competences and services available to the national and regional computational communities.
The focus will be on supporting the development of High Performance Computing (HPC) scalable algorithms, Machine Learning (ML), Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Data Science (DS) technologies and their application in relevant fields in industry, academia and public sector.
Specifically, we will address how the following user groups can improve their computational competences and proficiencies:
- Industry – Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs): SMEs make the backbone of the Cyprus economy, therefore special effort will be devoted to them.
This will be achieved, through the provision of consulting services and supporting them on porting their applications to HPC systems and for them to use advanced computational methods of ML/AI/DS, to enhance their productivity, efficiency and innovative products. - Academic groups: The majority of academics lack the personnel to keep up with the rapid developments in HPC and related technologies of ML/AI/DS.
The NCC established and will further strengthen an academic track program, devoting personnel to support academics scale their applications so they can pursue competitive computational research and also train them so they can access local and European computational resources. - Public Sector: The NCC will seek to collaborate with various public sector institutions, to introduce them to HPC tools and related technologies of ML/AI/DS to improve their services.
